Building and developing new Eco Warehouses
DB Schenker’s principles for designing new warehouses are based on global standards for sustainable construction according to the LEED, BREEAM, and DGNB specifications. These include thermal insulation systems, the use of rapidly renewable local resources, installing rainwater utilization systems, as well as environmentally conscious site definition, intelligent heating and air conditioning and special lighting concepts.
Turning existing warehouses into Eco Warehouses
Part of the globally executed FLEX (Flawless Execution) eco excellence program is to test and measure the energy consumption of all real estate used by DB Schenker contract logistics. This means that every area where environmental improvements are possible must be identified. The criteria for inspection and comparison are benchmark figures (best in class) for the energy consumption of existing comparable, highly energy-efficient warehouses.
The Eco Warehouse of the future
Together with the customers, DB Schenker defines the environmentally friendly characteristics of the future Eco Warehouse. They decide jointly on the extent to which the warehouse’s carbon emissions can be reduced and how this target can be reached.
DB Schenker monitors progress
TORCH, the online energy consumption and efficiency tool, records specific environmental data on water, energy, waste, and carbon emissions for all new and existing facilities. This data is then used for tracking and analyzing “green” developments and as a source of information for further optimization.
